White is the colour – or the lack of

Let’s talk about the lack of colour this summer- WHITE! I mean what better way to bring out the ethereal you? Side note: Consider this look for a carefree summer (so long as you steer clear of children, pets, and red wine) I mean it is a great season for those ready to wear wedding dresses waiting to be styled up and make the most of them.

White Dress

I have had this Forever New white dress for more than 10 years. It still looks fabulous and the quality is flawless. This dress always makes me feel so special. The fabric is a really fine crepe. i love how the fabric creases and is so breezy, it is a really flattering dress.

Dress – Forever new

“White has it all. It’s beauty is absolute. It’s the perfect harmony”- Coco Chanel

To take away the wedding dress feeling i styled this dress with a thin nude belt and nude court shoes. I initially planned to wear a statement necklace but it felt like a lot , so i replaced that with a lovisa rose gold chain choker.

On a side note , my 4yr old daughter choreographed these pictures. I was told to be myself and pose. I mean it is a serious business here with this blog but i was really blown away by the results. Don’t get me wrong there were a lot of pictures that did not make the cut.

This year we have seen a lot of white in all sorts of fabrics and shapes. So don’t be carried away by just one style because we have seen the return of wafty dresses this year. Go for cottons , crepes , lightweight fabrics. In terms of design look for what appeals to you most there are so many different details out there some of the main ones are frills, laces, broidery, puffy sleeves to name a few.

Here are 7 of my favorites in white which are available in the current ready to wear market.

How to style a white shirt 7 ways?

One staple garment every girl should have in her wardrobe is a white shirt! It is so versatile and can help with so many different looks it is unbelievable. Everyone knows to tuck the shirt in so i will skip that one.

1. Use as a cover up / Jacket

Easiest way to style a white shirt is to wear it as a cover up or a jacket. Winter or summer, day or night it is an absolute style steal.

White shirt – H&M , Top – Zara , Denim Skirt – BHS , Shoes – Puma

For winters try layering a turtle neck jumper or top with your white shirt. As seen on runway for The Row . The below look is from their spring summer collection however we can totally save it for winter.

2. Accessorise with a belt

A simple but effective way to elevate your basic white shirt look is by leaving the shirt untucked and adding a Belt to the waist. This will accentuate your waist. and will look particularly well if you don’t like shorter tops.

White shirt – H&M, Jeans – H&M

3. Add a bandeau on top

Want a stylish but fun outfit? Add a nude bandeau over your white shirt. This creates that colour block effect which is really cool. Feeling a bit bold ? try it in different colours , anything goes!

White shirt – H&M, Jeans – H&M , Bandeau – Zara

4. Add a contrast cami

I do love this look, I am using black but you can experiment with any colour you like. I have folded the cami in half and tucked it inwards to make it more like a crop top. You can go with an actual crop cami too. If you want something fitted go for a sporty fitted crop top.

5. Add a statement top

I love using this particular Zara top to just bring in the wow factor! what do you think ?

6. Wear under a slip dress

As seen on my blog before this is another nice way of wearing your white shirt.

7. Tie it up

Tying up your shirt is another nice way to change your look to a more casual one.

Satin Slip Dress for Work

Ok, by now you know that my love for Satin as a fabric is profound and i don’t miss a chance of wearing or treating myself to things made with it. Which is why i am super excited that this fabric is back in fashion.

In this post i am exploring the possibility of wearing a Satin Slip Dress to work. Yes! you heard me right, at work! I mean there is no harm in wearing Satin at work but because satin is technically a sensual fabric it makes it hard to look professional especially as a slip dress.

But worry not, i have found a way to make this work!

Power Dressing in a Slip Dress

When creating this look, i wanted to combine my cotton shirt with the slip dress so we have different textures involved. We have all seen a T-shirt inside the slip dress for a casual look, or the shirt over the slip dress with a knot on the front or open buttons for a holiday look.

But this just makes it look more professional. The satin still makes a statement and choosing the right colour is important. This would work Brilliantly with Navy , Black and even white for that matter. I however went with this beautiful Rusty brown. This dress is a fabulous find from Primark from last year it is made of 95% Polyester. My shirt is from H&M and is 100% cotton.

“You can have anything you want in life, if you dress for it.” – Edith Head

I wanted my heels and bag to stand out so i used black, but a tan or nude bag with with similar heels would go very well. if you want to make it more formal throw a blazer on top and it would be perfect. I practically live in these Dorothy Perkins court shoes at work they are super comfy and go with literally everything. I have them in Matte Black and glossy Nude, really good if you don’t want to break the bank.

Nude lips and natural makeup goes well with this look which is my go to. Hope you like this little edit. Hope the weather is a bit better to all of us today, see you soon.

Mustard Dreams

Is it just me or the combination of Mustard and gold just stunning?

Mustard is one colour that looks good on almost any skin tone. I personally find myself gravitating towards yellows and greens in the summer and more neutral colours in winter.

It is a total bonus when the trend for bold coloured summer dresses is in.

Dress – Red Herring, Debenhams,
Belt – Dorothy Perkins
Nude flats- Primark
Clutch – Debenhams
Jewellery -Lovisa Jewellery

I have this sweet and simple dress from Red Herring , Debenhams which can be worn as a square neck with sleeves or as an off shoulder dress for summer.

The dress comes with its own fabric belt. But i love the gold in this Dorothy Perkins mustard skinny Croc belt which elevates the look completely.

With a silhouette like this it is so easy to accentuate your shoulders. I like that this is a midi dress rather than short because then it balances out the amount of skin you show.

I kept my make up natural and bronze. The T strap flats are a surprise find from Primark from couple of years ago.

The Satin Dress

So it was my birthday this weekend Yey! And here I was thinking how boring it will be to be stuck at home? However it was wonderful!

My favorite flowers were delivered from Appleyard London . The kitchen was closed. We got takeaway, went for a drive and i enjoyed dressing up, catching up with family & the ones that are dear to me and there was cake followed by Prosecco (lots of it, Ahem!)

Unboxing my Appleyard London flowers ❤️

One thing that made me feel truly special was this dress by Vila Clothes

Style Notes

This Vila Vifsateny Midi Dress in dusty cedar is the dress of dreams for me. The colour itself so beautiful it compliments my skin perfectly. This dress is also available in navy, but the dusty cedar is definitely a winner. The cut of the silhouette is quite flattering due to the ruching at the waist and the wrap look of the hem looks fabulous when you walk , It is a complete party outfit in its own right. One thing i love about this dress is that the draped effect of the skirt which is quite secure, so there is no chance of you having a Marilyn Monroe moment.

Because the dress is shiney i kept my makeup bronze and glowy. My wedges are from New look and the bag is from River island ( RI monogram tape front bag) I accessorised with my Swarovski bracelet in rose gold and a rose gold heart chain from Lovisa jewellery

“As a woman gets older, it’s more about style than fashion. A woman knowing herself more and more, and looking for new things, is getting into her own personal style, being more than just a fashion addict. I’m interested in that.” —Nicolas Ghesquière

Let’s talk about the fabric, It is a beautiful and dense satin which is why the fall of the skirt is so beautiful. I also find that satin is usually really unforgiving as a fabric so you need to have the right lingerie with it and if you are worried about certain parts of your body looking out of shape like i felt with my mom belly until last year, finer satin with a tight fit silhouette is something you should be careful with.

However, the Vila Vifsateny Midi Dress is so easy to carry , the fabric being so dense it is a bit more forgiving than your regular satin. Also the ruching at the waist makes it absolutely the perfect dress for a party or a wedding. The dress features adjustable straps and zip closure on the side.

The fabric is made of 100% Polyester which is totally sustainable. If you are not sure why it is read my post on sustainability in fashion. That sums up my birthday a different one this year due to the lockdown but nice nonetheless. Until next time Xx

Mellow Cosmetics Review

So recently i got to review some of Mellow cosmetics products.

I was quite intrigued by the fact that they are Vegan and cruelty free. I don’t actually own lot of Vegan cosmetic products but I am slowly getting to a point where I do try and go for something that is natural and cruelty free. So when the prospect of trying Mellow Cosmetics came around I was really excited!

Another point that goes in Mellow’s favour is that their make up is Paraben free. Paraben is a type of preservative that increases the shelf life of cosmetic products so they can survive longer. However, when you use these products regularly, they can enter your body through your skin. Parabens are believed to disrupt hormone function by mimicking oestrogen which could lead to cancer and reproductive issues.

Mellow cosmetics

A point to note would be that the Lip pencil is a gel lip pencil which basically means it just glides on your skin. The shades i am using there are Gel Lip Pencil in Rose and the Creamy Matt Lipstick in Posh.

You can see the lipstick and the lip pencil in action in the video below.

The pigment is really rich and the texture of the lipstick indeed is creamy as it suggests on the packaging .

I have used several matte lipsticks and lip paints which tend to dry your lips after use even if you apply lip balms first. But I am quite pleasantly surprised with the creamy texture of this lipstick. I think mellow have done a great job on this. Initially I thought this lipstick won’t be a long stay because it is creamy, but I stand corrected. I wore this lipstick all evening and even after dinner the colour was intact! And it doesn’t dry my lips. I have to say I am quite happy.

Creamy matte lipstick – Posh and Gel Lip pencil – Rose

I have to say i have been on the hunt for a matte lipstick in a nude shade for a really long time and i am really impressed with the creamy matt lipstick by Mellow in the shade Posh.

Some other shades i love on their website are Liquid Lip paint in Auckland

And Liquid Lip Paint in London

Lastly Mellow are based in Australia but they ship worldwide and it took about 10 days for my package to arrive which is good considering they say international orders are delivered in 14 days.

As a special promotion you can get a 15% discount on your Mellow order just follow this link.

Welcome To Venice ,Italy

So last year, this time we visited Venice, Italy. Every year we go away for my birthday and because all plans got cancelled this year due to the pandemic I thought to look back on our last trip to Venice, Italy.

You don’t generally need more than 2-3 days in Venice , but we had a week. We decided it was a good idea to explore this city at a slow pace since we had our 3yr old daughter with us. Any parent would know there could be a million obstacles in getting out the door when there is a toddler involved.

Water taxi around Venice

First look of taking the water taxi around Venice was just unreal. The moment you get off the train at Venice train station it’s like you entered a completely different place in time!

Views of Venice

Take your time with this city and you will be rewarded. Every little street has something to offer. It is imperative that you buy the map of Venice keep an eye on where the toilets are and make sure you have enough change handy!

Each building has such intricate architectural design to it, you just find yourself standing there in awe of its brilliant design. I love the perfect Venetian Gothic design here.

Gondola rides – Opposite Hard Rock Cafe

Gondola’s are pretty expensive but they seem to be worth it. €80 for day time and and €100 after 7pm. If you are going to propose on a gondola that’s a higher price I hear.

Venice is not just about monuments and architecture, there are faboulous restaurants, music , theatre and luxury shopping among other things that can keep you entertained.

T Fondaco Dei Tedeschi

T Fondaco Dei Tedeshi get a special mention from me for being right next to the Rialto Bridge and being this spectacular from both inside and outside! This place is like a luxury shopping unit. You can find all the lux under one roof. Talking about roof, they have a brilliant and free roof top viewing deck that provides fantabulous views of Venice for free! Yes you heard me right FREE. You just need to make a booking of your 15 min slot.

Tip: Make the booking online and choose your time slot. Try and be 10 mins early as it gets busy sometimes with a tour group arriving.

Gelatoteca Suso

It will be a faux pas if you come to Venice and dont try the famous gelato ice cream. The best place to go is near Rialto bridge and is called Gelatoteca Suso. You must have seen a lot of instagrammers taking pictures in venice with their cones and the canal in the background. I for one was so engrossed enjoying the gelato no one took a picture of it. We take icecream very seriously in our household !

Rialto bridge , Venice

It is hard to fit everything about Venice in one post without making it too long. I will do the nearby islands in a further post in the near future. Until next time beautiful Venice.

Where are you planning to go when this pandemic is over?

Comfy and Chic in Jeans

So this Friday was the first time since March 2020 that we went out for a drive. Things are slightly relaxing here in the UK but we have stuck to virtual socialising. I wanted to put together a comfortable but chic look for the drive so here it is.

This look is based on Twiggy’s iconic quote about jeans and a jacket.

“Tailored jackets with jeans is a great look for all ages. Dress up with a heel and pretty shirt, or just wear a smart T-shirt under the jacket.”

Style Notes

The colour Aquamarine really goes well with my skin and love pairing this colour with Jeans it always works. The wrap shirt is by Dorothy Perkins and i have teamed it up with my favorite mom jeans from H&M and a tailored dog tooth blazer from boohoo my bag is from Debenhams and the shoes are from Kurt Geiger.

When in doubt just wear jeans.

Closer look

Like Twiggy said adding a tailored jacket or blazer to your jeans instantly elevates your look.

Here is an example for you :

If you haven’t already start investing in some different types of Blazers to elevate your look. A black or a White blazer would be a must have in my book.

Don’t forget to look at the label to see if it is conciously made ? remember if you can, go for 90% – 100% of the same fiber type. Until next time XX

Sustainable Fashion

So what exactly is the sustainable fashion movement?

Sustainability in fashion is not only about how long the clothes last but also about how they are made and do they have ecological integrity? Without going into long paragraphs, the fashion industry is amongst the leading industries that affect the environment negatively. Did you know that that only a small percentage of clothing is recycled or reused, and large amounts of textiles and accessories end up in landfills?

I hate to break it to you but there will never be 100% sustainable fashion. Because washing your clothes alone takes its toll on the environment through the use of water, electricity, and most laundry detergents are not eco-friendly. But what can you do to help?

In this post i am listing out some ways you can help the fashion sustainability movement-

Slow fashion is where you buy quality pieces and you make it last longer. I am all about getting the most out of your clothes and buying things that will last me years. The concept of slow fashion is really something that i have always unknowingly followed. There is one thing about trends they teach you in Fashion School and that is “Most trends come back”.

I for one like to invest in clothes that match my style but also are timeless, classic or essential. I still own clothes that were bought 12 years ago which i still quite happily wear.

Cloths Swapping is something i have recently started to do, specially for my toddler. Over the years i found that i was buying all these expensive and great looking clothes for my daughter to find that she would grow out of them in a few wears. I wont lie the idea of having someone else’s clothes was a bit uncomfortable at first but when i made sure i washed everything it dawned on me that this could work. I have a little group of friends who swap kids clothes , also we swap our bags, accessories, dresses and Jackets with each other. Often i stop myself buying new accessories for a party outfit if i can borrow something from a friend.

Another way to be sustainable is by buying from charity shops. Sometimes you can find gem of pieces for under a tenner in there. I don’t personally do this but i wont shy away from it. This is quite sustainable because the pieces already exist, so you are saving the entire negative impact of production and further transport.

Anything that has 100% of the same fibre for example 100% Cotton is excellent because that can be recycled. Blended fibres are hard not recyclable at the moment.

Recently i came across some recycled leggings and i was intrigued to know how they will fit and feel , i was so surprised that they were really good. I have been wearing them alot at home lately and seem to have passed the durability test.

The sustainability movement has really made me a bit more conscious to look at labels and see what my clothes are made of. That along with slow fashion i am making a little bit of change to the way i shop. Are you making changes to be more conscious and support sustainability of fashion ?

The Tropical Dress

How can one not be excited about the comeback of tropical prints for Spring /Summer 2020? I love trends that come back and i am a proud outfit repeater.

I only go by one rule “if it looks good on you, wear it again ! ”

Tropical Prints

I knew when i bought this tropical print dress four years ago from New Look that this will be one for the long term. The silhouette is your classic bandeau maxi dress which never really fades out of style when it comes to summer or holiday looks. Use it with the fabric belt provided with the dress or make it a bit more interesting with a different belt.

Pink and Tropical Dress

Now when they say tropical you think green, leafy and bold big prints. But as seen on runway this year we are in for a surprise with some different colours in this tropical trend. Mainly pinks, yellows and reds. I got this Beautiful frill detail wrap maxi dress from boohoo which really goes well with the trend but I think will also last me long. I bought this for my beach holiday for 2020, which like everything else got cancelled. But here we are!

Floral Frill Detail Wrap Maxi Dress from boohoo

Style Notes: I am wearing a Zara bandeau crop inside this dress as it matches the colour perfectly. Anyone with a smaller bust will find it easier to manage the neckline with a bit of Fashion tape.

I say everyone should have one tropical print dress of some sort in their wardrobe. Have you found yours?

Style Ref: Similar prints as seen on runway for D&G , Versace , Valentino , Fendi Spring/ Summer 2020 collection.
